Big boost for cancer
Insurance firm gets behind health care foundation program
The Cumberland Cancer Assistance fund of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation has received another very generous donation from the Antigonish Farmers’ Mutual Insurance Company.
In 2013, AFM general manager Bill Chisholm and his colleagues pledged to donate $20,000 over five years to support the cancer program.
“Antigonish Farmers’ Mutual liked that 100 percent of all donations received for the foundation’s Cumberland Cancer Assistance Fund are used to help cancer patients in Cumberland.” said Gwen Kerr, managing director of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation. “This program is completely local and has helped hundreds of our own families, friends and neighbors. We are so grateful that companies like Antigonish Farmers’ Mutual are able to support this fund that helps so many people in need.”
Chisholm said the company believes in supporting the communities where their members reside and they do so in many ways, including financial contributions to worthwhile causes.

Donations to the fund directly support cancer patients who are facing significant financial pressure as a result of the impact of the illness. The fund provides a helping hand with things like transportation for treatment, food and nutritional assistance, and other areas as identified by the Cumberland Health Authority’s Cancer Navigator as being required to maintain the health of the cancer patient
